Tampa’s Florist deliver Adrift as a tight, 30-minute shot of fuzzed-out stoner psyche that feels both interstellar and swamp-soaked. Released on August 1, 2025, the six-track follow-up to their 2023 Contact EP leans harder into texture—sitar, theremin, and synth haze—without ever losing the riff.
It opens with the instrumental “432Hz,” a sly nod to the purported frequency of the universe. Eastern-tinged sitar drifts over ambient fog before slamming into a post-doom surge that announces the band’s intentions. “Another Moon” immediately locks into cavernous, nodding grooves, its lyrics imagining planting a garden on some distant satellite. The song swings with desert-rock ease while still feeling weightless. “Out of Space” hits harder, all crash-and-burn energy that matches its title.
“Grow” is the album’s lumbering centerpiece, a mantra of “Creation / Liberation / No limitation / Grow” riding thick bass and pounding drums. The two-part title track is the real payoff. Part A offers the most fully formed lyrics—time collapsing, constructs dissolving, a return to stardust—while Part B stretches into hypnotic, slightly progressive territory that rewards patience.
Producer Ryan Boesch gives everything a vibrant, full-bodied punch that never smothers the psychedelic drift. Florist aren’t reinventing stoner-doom, but they play the form with zero pretension and obvious joy. The record feels like it was made to be played loud in a packed room or on a late-night drive with the windows down.
Short, potent, and unapologetically fun, Adrift is an easy recommendation for anyone who likes Elder, King Buffalo, or Sabbath-via-Sleep heaviness with extra cosmic seasoning. It’s the sound of a band that knows exactly what it wants to do and does it with conviction.
