Karnivrous’s debut EP We Let Them In is a 30-minute ritual of groove, dread, and mythic violence from the London/Kent four-piece. Wozz’s guttural vocals, Vinny’s twisting riffs, Paul’s subterranean bass, and Jacobi’s thunderous drums fuse deathcore breakdowns with progressive dissonance and Meshuggah-to-Gojira swagger.
The title is a warning and an invitation. These songs open the door to kaiju, yokai, dragons, and boiling seas. Opener “Kaiju” rises from the water as a vengeful Oni, its lyrics framing city-flattening destruction as payback for human arrogance. Crushing mid-tempo grooves and sudden atmospheric drops make the threat feel enormous rather than merely loud.
“Beyond the Horizon (There Be Dragons)” and “Lost in the Mist” stretch the canvas: longer runtimes allow sludgy tension, ritualistic builds, and bleak dissonance that recall the band’s stated influences (Lamb of God, Lorna Shore, Whitechapel). “Harikiri” cuts sharper, while the brief “And the Cycle Shall Returneth” functions as a grim interlude before closer “As the Seas Boil” erupts in apocalyptic finality.
Production by Erim Ahmet keeps the mix dense but not muddy; the low end hits like a ritual drum while the atmosphere never fully lifts. The EP’s world-building—ancient horrors, shifting realities, things that lurk just beyond perception—gives it a cinematic cohesion rare for a first release. It is not yet fully refined, but the hunger and conceptual unity are unmistakable.We Let Them In announces a band that wants to unnerve and consume. For fans of modern death metal that values both pit-ready grooves and mythic weight, this is an easy door to walk through. Just remember what the title already told you.
