Cold Velvet by The Night Eternal (Metal Blade Records, due August 21, 2026) marks the German melancholic heavy metal band’s label debut and a confident evolution from Moonlit Cross (2021) and Fatale (2023).
Recorded with real amplifiers and analog mixing under producer Michael Zech (known for work with Secrets of the Moon, Triptykon, and others), the album prioritizes organic tone and atmosphere. The dual guitars of Robert Richter and Henry Käseberg deliver mesmeric, layered riffs, while Ricardo Baum’s haunting vocals and Aleister Präkelt’s hypnotic, ritualistic drumming create a trance-like pull. The result weaves darkness, dreamlike unease, and deep melancholy into dramatic heavy metal with a rock ’n’ roll edge—complete with irresistibly catchy choruses designed as setlist staples.
Lead single “Where This World Ends” sets the tone with dramatic dark riffing, lingering vocal melodies, and subtle synth-guitar textures nodding to Iron Maiden’s “Somewhere in Time.” “Caught in a Spell” follows as a hypnotic night-drive anthem, driven by groove and a powerful sing-along chorus that evokes restless wanderlust. “The Veins of Time” continues the thematic thread of time, fate, and the unseen. Cold Velvet sharpens the band’s identity without abandoning their roots in ’70s/’80s guitar-driven metal filtered through a sinister, nocturnal lens. It feels like a deliberate statement of authenticity: mature, immersive, and built for both repeated listens and live adrenaline.
