This time around we feature the collection of Eli Fakes, guitarist in the Toledo, Ohio death metal band Mutilatred.
The first record I ever bought with my own money was…
Underworlds by Mammoth Grinder. They are a such an incredible band, literally every release is a banger. Chris Ulsh is easily one of my favorite musicians and whatever he does in whatever band he’s in, he crushes it. I was a little thrown off when I saw he was playing bass on the upcoming Mammoth Grinder release, but I’m stoked none the less.
The record that made me want to make music was…
Starting off learning guitar, Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd was a huge influence. Being 13 and sucking at guitar then watching David Gilmore rip gave me a huge push. But once I really started playing and getting serious, Dopethrone by Electric Wizard really made me want to try and write good solid riffs. Plus smoking weed and playing music goes hand in hand haha.
The record I’ve played more than any other is…
Hell is Other People by Heartless. Raw, pissed off, and fast. What more could you ask for?
The record that always make me feel good is…
Probably Chasms by Lycus. It takes me back to living out in Washington State. Gray skies, rainy days, and funeral doom just put me in a real good spot.
The record I turn to when I’m feeling down is…
Out of my personal collection, Trying by Spook Houses. They’re not a heavy band but the album starts off with “Trying” which a real depressing acoustic song. I’ve never seen a band open an album like that so it’s a nice change of pace. The rest of the album is with the full band and just a flawless record.
An album I’ve been listening to as of late if I’m feeling bummed is Dragonchaser by Fog Lake. They’re a real chill drug rock band.
The record with my favorite cover art is…
Man, I don’t know how to answer that one haha. I really love the artwork for Earth’s Angels of Darkness Demons of Light and Primitive and Deadly. The artwork for all the Cough albums rule. Human Overdose by Hatered Surge has some awesome art too. I don’t know, I’m a fan of all the artwork for different reasons.
The strangest LP I own is…
I’m not too sure to be honest. I started buying records pretty late and don’t really have the cash flow to buy random records.
The rarest LP I own is…
Nothing actually rare. But one of the coolest records I own in my opinion is Satan Worshiping Doom by Bongripper. Besides the fact that Bongripper crushes, I bought a copy of Satan Worshiping Doom off of eBay for $66.60. There were cheaper copies but let’s be real here, haha.
The last LP I bought was…
Waiting on a few pre-orders to come in the mail still, but recently I’ve picked up 9-13 by Iron Monkey, and Success by Ken Mode. Waiting on Caustic by Primitive Man, Sterilize by Unsane, Hostage Animal by All Pigs Must Die, Ardor by Big|Brave, and Whales and Leeches by Red Fang to arrive by mail.
