The first record that I ever bought with my own money was American Idiot by Green Day. I got that CD for Christmas and took it everywhere until I lost it one day. 11 year old me went out to Target and bought another copy (with parental permission, of course).

Records such as American Idiot, Back in Black, and Led Zeppelin IV made me want to pick up a guitar and have fun. However, it wasn’t until I came across Pantera’s Cowboys from Hell and Avenged Sevenfold’s City of Evil that made me want to write and perform heavy music.

I have played American Idiot more than any record I own. I mentioned that it was the first record I bought, so it has been with me for a long time. I have jammed it ever since elementary school and even throughout college. Something about that record just resonates within me.
The record that always make me feel good is…
50 Number Ones is a compilation album of #1 hits by George Strait that I found in my dad’s CD collection. I am convinced that on the night of my conception, my parents were listening to a George Strait record. My earliest memory of music is the sound of George Strait’s voice. There’s even a home video of me sitting in front of my dad’s Sony stereo system singing “Today My World Slipped Away”. So when I listen to that record, it brings a sense of warm nostalgia and joy.
The record I turn to when I’m feeling down is…
I have Ultimate Sinatra on vinyl, and that is my go-to record when I’m feeling down or stressed. I’m not really into drowning my sorrows in booze and depressing music. Instead, I pour myself one glass of a nice whiskey and listen to Frank sing songs about love, life, and resilience.

Off the cuff, I would say Black Sabbath’s debut album. I don’t know what it is about it, but it sincerely gives me chills. Maybe it’s just the memory of holding it in my hands when I was younger and just mesmerized by the distortion, imagery, colors, and that eerie woman in the foreground. It’s just an iconic image that perfectly captures what the record sounded like.
The strangest LP I own is…
I don’t believe that I own any strange LPs, but I will admit that I have some guilty pleasures. Well I guess not so guilty since I have no shame about what I enjoy. But I did swipe my older sister’s CD a while back. It’s N*SYNC’s debut record
The rarest LP I own is…
I’m not sure if I own a rare record, but a collection of LPs that I am proud of are my autographed copies of all four KISS solo albums (Gene, Paul, Ace, and Peter). They are displayed in a frame in my room, and it is the last thing I look at when I go to bed.
The last LP I bought was…
The last LP that I bought was Midland’s Let it Roll. Those boys sure know their country. I fell in love with them when their debut On the Rocks came out, and I saw them on their Let it Roll tour before the album was even released. So I was very eager to buy that son of a bitch as soon as it came out! It’s been spinning non-stop in my car.
