Kurt Werder (Fumarole)

This time around we get up close and personal with Kurt Werder, guitarist in the Brisbane, Australia based stoner metal band Fumarole.

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

Nofx – The War on Errorism this album had a huge impact on me as a teen so when I decided I was gonna start vinyl it had to the album that questioned why punk rock had become so safe.

The record that made me want to make music was…

This is a defining moment in my life, when I was about 7 I walked into my cousins room and I saw a Pearl Jam Ten poster and immediately had to hear it. My cousin Shayne played guitar and was my hero and after hearing Eddie sing and Mike and Stone Jam I was decided that I was going to play guitar in a rock band.

The record I’ve played more than any other is…

Black Sabbath – Paranoid, because Sabbath.

The record that always make me feel good is…

Every Time I Die – Hot Damn, I’m a huge ETIDiot and even had an ETID tattoo.

The record I turn to when I’m feeling down is…

Conan – Revengeance the power of that album takes me from down to angry and then powerful by the end!

The record with my favorite cover art is…

High on Fire – Electric Messiah they really hit the nailed in the head with that one!

The strangest LP I own is…

I have a copy of Bad//Dreems- Gutful that has a misprinted cover where half of it is off centre.

The rarest LP I own is…

I have a 7” by a Brisbane punk band called Draft Dodger that I’m sure they didn’t press many of.

The last LP I bought was…

Witchskull – Covens Will probably one of Australia’s best stoner doom bands!

Fumarole’s latest album, Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes, was released on October 17, 2020. Order from Fumarole on limited edition 12” transparent green and black smoke vinyl. Comes with poster. “Name your price” digital download also available.
