Live by Jean-Luc Ponty. This is a jazz fusion record that I picked up for $1 at a record shop in Raleigh, NC. I’d never heard the record before I bought it but when I got home and listened I was absolutely blown away by it. It has some super tight grooves and insane violin solos. I always enjoy listening to this record.

Rage Against the Machine by Rage Against the Machine. If I’m sad, I usually try to listen to something that makes me feel energetic and angry to get all the bad juices out, and this is the perfect record for that.

Mansa Bendung by Foday Musa Suso. He is a Gambian musician who plays the kora, which is a string instrument kind of like a cross between a lute and a harp. The music on the record is pretty bizarre, but it’s a really cool and unique part of my collection.
The rarest LP I own is…
Ambient Vol. 2: The Plateaux of Mirror by Harold Budd and Brian Eno. This is my favorite ambient album, and my girlfriend knows how much I love it and so she got an original pressing for me for Valentine’s Day last year. I’ve never seen it in any record shops, and on Discogs, it certainly seems like it’s worth a pretty penny.

The record shop I last went to was Main Street Music in Manayunk, PA, and I bought three records – Entertainment! by Gang of Four; Hot Rats by Frank Zappa (on pink vinyl); and Rated R by Queens of the Stone Age. I love all three of these and when I saw them in the shop I couldn’t resist.
