Daniel Dolby (Musician/Artist/Label Owner)

This time around we feature the vinyl collection of the multi-faceted musician, artist and label owner Daniel Dolby.

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

The Number of the Beast by Iron Maiden on cassette. My Dad was a massive Maiden fan and he had it on vinyl but I wanted to listen to it in the car whilst on holiday so I spent a massive chunk of my money on it. Didn’t regret it one bit!

The record that made me want to make music was…

That’s a really tricky one but I’ll have to go with Metallica’s The Black Album. It came out when I was 12 and me and my friends couldn’t get enough of it. One of our parents was kind enough to take us to a gig in Sheffield and after that we formed our first band.

The record I’ve played more than any other is…

On the Turn by Kerbdog. It’s been played at pretty much every major life even I’ve had. Absolutely blinding album.

The record that always make me feel good is…

Witness by Modern Life Is War. It’s the quintessential melodic hardcore album full of quality tunes. Plus it has D.E.A.D.R.A.M.O.N.E.S. on it!

The record I turn to when I’m feeling down is…

‘Diary’ by Sunny Day Real Estate. Not only is it an outstandingly emotional album but it has stood the test of time and been so influential. It definitely doesn’t cheer me up but is perfect for wallowing in self-pity!

The record with my favorite cover art is…

Probably ‘Times of Grace’ by Neurosis. I have lost count of how many times I’ve bought and subsequently lost a shirt with the album art on the cover.

The strangest LP I own is…

‘Gold’ by The Carpenters. Karen’s voice was totally beautiful and they have so many great pop songs. Definitely looks out of place against the rest of my collection but it’s remaining in it!

The rarest LP I own is…

I have the original pressing of ‘Sunset Mission’ by Bohren & Der Club of Gore which I think is pretty rare nowadays. Bohren are one of my absolute favourite bands.

The last LP I bought was…

‘I Shall Die Here’ by The Body. It’s phenomenal. I’ve pre-ordered the new Lingua Ignota album so that’ll probably be the next one that arrives.
