Randall Krieger (Anisoptera)

This time around we feature the collection of guitarist Randall Krieger (above left, that’s vocalist Robby Perry on the right) of the Oakland based progressive metal band Anisoptera.

The first record I ever bought with my own money was…

Nile – Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka. I have only recently started buying and listening to vinyl records as I grew up buying and listening to CD’s. However a few years ago I discovered my dads old vinyl collection in an attic, dusty and forgotten. I was surprised how many good records were in there. Pink Floyd, Tower of Power, The Beatles, Steely Dan, Fleetwood Mac, Stevie Wonder, Rolling Stones, Santana, Paul Simon and many more old rock, blues, soul, and classical records. That inspired me to buy a record player and start buying my own records.

The record that made me want to make music was…

Metallica – Kill ‘Em All.

The record I’ve played more than any other is…

Probably Pink Floyd – Animals.

The record that always make me feel good is…

Eric Silver Chopin Piano Ballades no.1 in G minor is my favorite.

The record I turn to when I’m feeling down is…

Paul Simon – Still Crazy After All These Years.

The record with my favorite cover art is…

Mastodon – Crack the Skye. Love all the colors.

The strangest LP I own is…

Elemer Horvath, and Ciganyzenekara Hungarian folk songs and Csardases. I bought this record because it looked different. It is surprisingly good.

The rarest LP I own is…

Medieval and Renaissance music for the Irish and Medieval harps. It is interesting listening to music from this time period, although some of it being several hundred years old the music is still highly developed in its compositional style and form. Other than our technological advancements, I don’t think humans have changed much in the last few hundred years. The oldest piece on this record was written in-between (1165-1230)

The last LP I bought was…

Frank Zappa – The London Symphony Orchestra. This record is now one my favorites. Definitely one of my favorite classical compositions.
