This time around we feature the cassette collection of Tridroid Records label owner Christine K.
The first tape I ever bought with my own money was…
Would have been 1994 and it was a double-header! Cassingles of Sheryl Crow – All I Wanna Do and Janet Jackson – That’s the Way Love Goes. What? You think I was born a headbanger?
The tape I’ve played more than any other is…
Black Sabbath – We Sold Our Soul for Rock ‘N Roll. I own Black Sabbath’s ENTIRE discography on tape (yes, ENTIRE) and multiple copies of many of the albums, but that collection is just perfect back to front. Great for car trips.
The tape that always make me feel good is…
Anything by Cocteau Twins – just transcendent. Also, Winter Line – s/t. It’s ambient (I guess?) and sad and gorgeous and honestly is probably my fave tape.
The tape I turn to when I’m feeling down is…
Depeche Mode – Singles 81 – 85. If that synthy pop doesn’t make you feel better you’re a damn cyborg. And even cyborgs would be into early Depeche Mode so. Second choice is anything by Perturbator.
The tape with my favorite cover art is…
Exciter – Heavy Metal Maniac!
The strangest tape I own is…
A tape of myself interviewing Martin Atkins and Meg Lee Chin from the Pigface tour bus in 2001. Had a great conversation with Meg, not such a great one with Martin.
The rarest tape I own is…
An Uprising test press – but that’s a bit unfair because I’m the one who had them pressed in the first place. I also have a copy of Mercyful Fate – In the Shadows that was signed by Hank Shermann, Michael Denner, and Snowy Shaw. I got it in a tape lot from eBay for some ridiculously tiny amount of money, so whoever sold it had no idea the signatures were there, I imagine.
The last tape I bought was…
Another double-header! Crown of Asteria – Haruspex and Crown of Asteria – Rauðskinna Special Editions from Akashic Envoy. SUPER gorgeous special editions with booklets and art prints.
